Wingham Farms:

Wingham Farms is a pasture-based family farm located in nearby Manning (Banks), Oregon. We raise our animals 365 days a year outdoors on our 100-acre farm, in natural and humane conditions, and without use of antibiotics, hormones, pesticides or herbicides.

Meat:

This meat is truly different from the grocery store. The animals are completely pasture raised; our beef and goat are completely grass-fed and grass-finished, ensuring the benefits from things like leaner meat, more Omega-3 fatty acids and more antioxidants, as well as freedom from things like antibiotics and hormones. We schedule butchering at optimum times for the animal’s health (like in the fall or spring after they can enjoy the flush of new grass) and freeze our meat after dry aging, so it is preserved at its most delicious, most tender, and most nutritious.

Aaron from Stoneboat says this meat is awesome. And he was a chef for ten years and a butcher for a few as well.

Meat will be available for purchase a la carte at the on farm CSA and available for preorder at the CSA or markets.

Milk:

Get the best milk! Wingham farm has a herd of Jersey dairy cows that produce amazing milk with amazing cream on top. One you’ve had it you’ll see why people have milked cattle for about eight thousand of years. It’s that good. The milk is raw (that’s why it’s so good!) and non-homgonized. Check out Daniel’s milking facility and see how careful he is by contacting him for a tour.

Kiyokawa Orchards Fruit Share

kiyokawa orchard.jpg

This share is a little different from the other shares - to make it work for Kiyokawa, Stoneboat will be handling the signups and payments. So if you want in, the best way is to sign up on the website right here. The share will start the week of July 13th and continue on through the end of the year - that's 16 weeks of fruit. It costs $230 for the season. It will start with a mix of cherries for a few weeks and then on to peaches and apples by mid August or so (with probably some cherries mixed in in early August too). It continues through August with some cool pluerries (a cherry plum mix!) added in for a few weeks. Pears start in early/mid September as peaches phase out. There will be some pluots and plums to spice things up through September. By late September and October there will be apples, pears, Asian pears, and plums. By mid to late October it will be pears and apples. But I'm not really doing it justice here. By "apples" I mean a mixed box of a few of the 120 varieties (for real!) Kiyokawa grows. I saw the list for last year and with all the varieties they're picking each week, it runs something like seven pages! It is worth noting though that even if you've been at it for three generations, fruit is unpredictable - there may be a week or even two where we have to take a break - if so you'll either get more fruit next time or we'll get you some jam or other preserves for that week.

In one share you might get: 2.5lbs of mixed cherries, 2# of pluerries, 3# of plums or peaches, or four to five lbs of apples or pears. Many shares will have a mix of fruits (so a pound and a quarter of cherries and a pound and a half of peaches for instance). This is a rough example but gives you an idea of the quantity.  This is our second year with Kiyokawa and last year was really amazing in both the quantity and quality of fruit $13 a week bought!

Kiyokawa is a 3rd generation family farm in Hood River. And the family and the orchard have some pretty amazing stories - from immigration to internment camps to the Alar scare of the 80s that helped kick off the organic and no spray movement in fruit production, more than a century of Oregon history right there. If you're curious you can read a lot of the story here.

Coffee from Steward Valley Farm

Coffee from Stewards Valley Farm:

Our fellow farmers at Stewards Valley Farm also roast coffee (what productive folks!).  They've been selling it to their CSA for years and are reaching out to other CSAs to offer it as well since it's very good!  Here's what they want you to know!

  • We've been roasting for nine years. Our coffee is featured at several local establishments such as Mayfly, the Oregon City Farmers Market, and St. Beatrix.

  • Our roasts are medium light to medium.

  • We package our coffee in reusable quart-sized mason jars with sustainable organic packaging.

  • We have found our customers are most likely to order coffee biweekly, although we also offer weekly and monthly options.  About 1/3rd of our produce CSA customers added on coffee.

  • We rotate our offerings weekly.

  • Our coffees are purchased from small farms who receive a higher price for their goods.  We buy 100% of our coffees through Shared Source and Red Fox coffee merchants.

  • A 12 oz jar is $16, you can sign up for weekly, biweekly, or monthly coffee.

  • Like the fruit share, you will pay with your veggie CSA and get your coffee all year!

Golden Age Kombucha

Golden age picture.jpg

Kombucha By Golden Age Kombucha:  Val and Paul make wonderful kombucha. They offer a changing line up of flavors each week.  Come see them every other week during farm pick ups and reserve your booch to pick up on the weeks they’re not there.  Sign up for anything from a growlette to a Corny keg (if your child drinks kombucha like mine does).

Golden Age Kombucha is an organic full flavored probiotic drink. Compared to other vinegary kombuchas you might find in store, a Golden Age Kombucha ranges from tart to subtly sweet. Golden Age is focused on reusability, sustainability and energy mindfulness so they partner with small local farmers (like Stoneboat!) and businesses in Portland to achieve their mission of having as little environmental impact as possible.

North Plains Sourdough

IMG_3283-2.jpg

North Plains Sourdough is a cottage micro-bakery that has quickly grown to be quite popular in the community of North Plains, just a few minutes from the farm.  All loaves are naturally leavened and made by hand using my own wild yeast starter which produces a delicious organic loaf.  Ashley, the owner and baker, also offers tempting flavored loaves (like jalapeno cheddar or double chocolate) that rotate on a monthly basis.  Her loaves are available as a subscription or by purchasing a la carte!

This year Ashley will be offering bread subscriptions of one or two loaves of her original sourdough and/or her specialty loaves as a subscription for weekly bread for all 24 weeks of the year.  You can also add on a specialty loaf (and not just loaves - sometime sourdough crackers and tortillas too) or order sporadically, a la carte, on her website here.  To sign up for a subscription for the season, please contact Ashley here.
